Mullein is a powerful herb that many see as just another weed. But it has so many uses and benefits. Most of the benefits come from its leaves and flowers, but when I found out the dried stalks can be used as a natural wick for candles, I knew I had to try it! Kev and I had our home parked in a beautiful private campsite in Southern Idaho for a couple weeks and Mullein was everywhere. So I was able to collect a couple for experimenting. The candles you see here are stalks I harvested with love in Idaho this September.
It burns like a regular candle wick without any additives or chemicals to keep it burning. Only notes are it takes a little longer with a lighter to get it going properly, also the wick doesn't burn away. Which results in less smoke and soot than a regular candle.
I dipped these wicks in high quality beeswax. Then there are Cinnamon ones and Pine ones. The cinnamon ones smell of cinnamon but not as much as it burns, and the pine ones don't smell much like pine, as much as I tried! Instead they smell like honey, which is very light and sweet.
These burn about an inch every 15 minutes. To put them out you can dip in water, they are a bit harder to blow out.
I only made 7 of each kind of these candles, grab them while you can! 🕯
REMEMBER: Never leave your candles burning unattended, please enjoy!
