Mullein is a powerful herb that many see as just another weed. But it has so many uses and benefits. Most of the benefits come from its leaves and flowers, but when I found out the dried stalks can be used as a natural wick for candles, I knew I had to try it! Kev and I had our home parked in a beautiful private campsite in Southern Idaho for a couple weeks and Mullein was everywhere. So I was able to collect a couple for experimenting. The candles you see here are stalks I harvested with love in Idaho this September.
It burns like a regular candle wick without any additives or chemicals to keep it burning. Only notes are it takes a little longer with a lighter to get it going properly, also the wick doesn't burn away. Which results in less smoke and soot than a regular candle.
I dipped these wicks in high quality beeswax that I combined with cinnamon and spruce essential oils, then rolled them in crushed cinnamon stick.
The scent of cinnamon is the most dominant, but while burning the scent is very mild. These burn about an inch every 15 minutes. To put them out you can dip in water, they are a bit harder to blow out.
I only made 5 of these candles, grab them while you can! 🕯
